8 percent of applicants to United States Naval Academy were admitted for fall 2017

At United States Naval Academy, 99 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 73 percent are male, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Annapolis enrolled 4,495 students in fall 2017, all in undergraduate programs, data shows. No undergraduates were transferred from another college or university.

5 percent of undergraduates are residents of Maryland, and 91 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (63 percent) and Hispanic or Latino (12 percent).

The school admitted 8 percent of the 16,299 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 87 percent enrolled.
