Anne Arundel County Public Schools issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will hear an update on the readiness of schools for the 2018-2019 school year and be briefed on the timeline for the new Crofton Area High School at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, August 22, 2018. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.
The update will include information from the offices of School Performance, Curriculum & Instruction, Advanced Studies & Programs, Student Support Services, Human Resources, and Facilities.
The 2018-2019 school year starts on Tuesday, September 4, with students in first through fifth, sixth, and ninth grades beginning classes. Five schools – Corkran Middle School and Brock Bridge, George Cromwell, High Point, and Richard Henry Lee elementary schools – will open one day late due to construction projects as previously planned and announced.

The Crofton Area High School update will include the status of the construction project and a timeline for establishing school attendance boundaries, selecting a principal, and recommending a school name to the Board. Curricular aspects of the new school as well as the entrance plan for students will also be discussed.
The Board will also receive on update on newly state manded water safety testing intitiative that occurred in schools last spring and which will resume this fall.
The Board will meet in a public session at 8:00 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The public session of the meeting will resume at 10 a.m.

The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast, Channel 496 on Broadstripe, and Channel 1961 on Verizon. Rebroadcasts are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. the day after the meeting and 2:00 p.m. on subsequent Sundays.
