Anne Arundel County issued the following announcement on Aug. 24.
On August 23, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Laurel Ft Meade Road (MD-198) near Laureldale Drive in Laurel/Maryland City. The Acura was westbound on MD-198 when the pedestrian entered the roadway into westbound traffic in an apparent attempt to cross the roadway. The driver did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid striking him. The driver stopped and called 911.
The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges will be after review by the States Attorney.
