ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY: Library Wi-Fi, Internet to be Down Intermittently Through November 1

Internet

Anne Arundel County Public Library issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.

In an effort to fully recover from a recent cyber attack and restore all services, Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) officials today announced that the library’s Wi-Fi and public computers will be down for repair intermittently through November 1.

All 16 library branches will remain open for checking out materials, programs and for use by the community. The library’s website, online catalog and electronic resources remain unaffected by the outages. In branch printing, faxing, copying and scanning will not be available.

Customers are encouraged to check the library’s website at https://www.aacpl.net/, visit its Facebook or Twitter pages or call their local branch to confirm what services are available. The majority of library services are expected to be fully operational by November 2. All fines incurred during the outage will be waived.

“While we had hoped to recover from the attack without any more impact on our customers, some of these repairs require us to temporarily shut off internet access in individual branches,” said Chief of Support Services Rudy Rodela. “We appreciate our customers’ patience and are eager to get back to fully serving the people of Anne Arundel County.”

While library staff will work diligently to help customers as quickly as possible during this network outage, cardholders are encouraged to download the AACPL Checkout app for the most efficient experience. The app, available for all iOS and Android devices, allows customers to check out books, magazines, DVDs and more while skipping the checkout line. The app must be downloaded before coming to the library. Customers who don’t use the app must have their library card number available to check out materials.
