CITY OF ANNAPOLIS: Road closures this weekend due to events; City offices closed on Monday, November 12

City of Annapolis issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.

Several events are scheduled for this weekend, Saturday, November 10, and Sunday, November 11, that will require temporary road closures. Monday, November 12, is a city holiday in honor of Veterans Day. Residents and visitors should be aware of the following:

8th Annual Annapolis Running Classic, Saturday, November 10, beginning at 7:15 a.m.

All runners will begin at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and will come down Rowe Boulevard, to Calvert Street, clockwise around Church Circle, down Main Street, over to Susan Campbell Park, to Randall Street and USNA Gate 1 then up King George Street. The runners will turn left onto College Avenue, turn right onto St. John’s Street, right onto Bladen Street to the at the turnaround on Rowe Boulevard, take a left on St. John’s Street, left onto College Avenue and a left on King George St. The 10K runners will finish at the stadium.

The half marathon runners will continue by turning right to go over the MD 450/ U.S. Naval Academy Bridge into Anne Arundel County, and return over the bridge and back to the stadium.

More than 2,000 runners are expected to take part in this year’s race. The total race time will be three and a half hours, beginning at 7:15 a.m. and ending at 10:45 a.m. Any runners not finished by this time will be directed onto the sidewalks and all streets will be open to normal traffic. Brief street closures are expected between the Main Street corridor and USNA Gate 1, starting at 7:15 a.m., with alternate routes available.

Runners should be in the neighborhoods listed below at the approximate times:

  • Taylor Avenue, Cedar Park Road, Farragut Road, Rowe Blvd, Herbert Sachs Drive, Northwest Street, Church Circle (east side), Main Street, Randall Street from 7:15 to 8:35 a.m.
  • Downtown Annapolis, including Main Street and the City Dock Area, will be completely open to traffic by 8:30 a.m.
King George Street, College Avenue, Bladen Street, St. John Street from 7:45 to 8:50 a.m. King George St. from Gate 1 to College Avenue will be open by 8:50 a.m. and King George St. from College Avenue to Rt. 450 will be open by 10:50 a.m.

Rowe Blvd. and Taylor Avenue will have a detour around Stadium between 7:15-10:45 a.m. Taylor Avenue east of Rowe Blvd. will be closed to traffic until 10:45 a.m.

  • The streets listed will open and close on a rolling basis. There will be nine parking spaces reserved on College Avenue for this event.
In Anne Arundel County:

  • Route 450/Ritchie, Naval Academy Bridge - One lane of the bridge will be open at all times to USNA Gate 8.
  • MD 450/Ritchie Highway, Boulter’s Way - Cars will be permitted to travel on MD 450/Ritchie Highway at all times with cars being directed to northbound lanes.

Sunday, November 11, at 8 a.m. – Ripley Race 5K

The 10th Annual Ripley Race 5K will take place in Annapolis on Sunday, November 11, and is expected to host about 1,500 runners. The 5K road race is run each year to raise awareness for returning war veterans and to honor the legacy and heroism of one of Annapolis' most distinguished war heroes, Col. John Ripley, a 1962 graduate of the Naval Academy.

The total race time is estimated to be one hour, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 9 a.m. Street closures are expected between the Main Street corridor and USNA Gate 1, starting at 8:05 a.m. Runners should be in the neighborhoods listed below at these approximate times:

Main Street from 8:05 to 8:25 a.m.

West Annapolis at Baltimore & Annapolis Blvd and Taylor Ave. from 8:10 to 8:35 a.m.

Taylor Ave. at Rowe Blvd. from 8 to 8:10 a.m. and from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.

All streets listed will open and close on a rolling basis. Homes and churches along the race route have been notified. There will be no loss of parking for this event.

The run begins at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and will come down Rowe Blvd., around Church Circle, down Main Street, over to Gate 1 and back up King George Street, finishing at the stadium.

The race benefits the Semper Fi Fund and The Station Foundation. Semper Fi Fund is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, providing immediate financial support for injured and critically-ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. The Station Foundation is a 501(c)3 focused on creating a balanced environment for Special Operations Forces returning from home and entering civilian life. Sunday, November 11, beginning at 10:45 a.m. – Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

Hosted by the Fleet Reserve Association, the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Memorial Circle at City Dock (at the bottom of Main Street, near Annapolis Market House)will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a performance by the U.S. Naval Academy Band. The event includes a short parade around Memorial Circle as part of the ceremony. All veterans are welcome to participate in this public event.

Monday, November 12 – City offices closed for Veterans Day

City of Annapolis government offices will be closed on Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day. Annapolis Transit will operate on a Sunday Schedule. Recycling and refuse will be not affected.
