Anne Arundel County issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.
Building Fire- Severna Park
On December 12th at 7:56 a.m. firefighters responded to a reported building fire at the Severna Park Church of God, located at 233 Ritchie Highway.
First arriving firefighters found smoke from the roof of the building and fire around a door on the side of the building. Firefighters extinguished most of the fire on the building’s first floor and in the crawl space within 10 minutes, with additional time required for overhaul and investigation.
Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the fire was accidental in nature, related to the oil-fueled heating unit located in the crawl space.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $125,000. There were no injuries.
