Speaker

Anne Arundel Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

Department Undergoing Re-Accreditation

The Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) Department of Public Safety and Police is inviting public comments while undergoing a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

This fall, IACLEA is examining all aspects of the department’s policies and procedures, management, operation, and support services. College members and the public are invited to offer their thoughts on the department’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s 215 standards by phone or mail.

To comment by phone, call 410-777-1278 from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28. Written comments may be sent to cpair@iaclea.org or by mail to IACLEA Accreditation, 1110 Bonifant St., Suite 220, Silver Spring, MD 20910. A copy of the standards is available online or at DPSP the Department of Public Safety and Police located in the Central Services Building at AACC in Arnold. Contact Maj. Cleveland Smith at 410-777-1190 to view the standards.

“Verification that we meets IACLEA’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation – a highly prized recognition of campus public safety professional excellence,” Chief Sean Kapfhammer said. “I am committed to fiscal accountability and ensuring the department maintains a workforce with the professional capabilities necessary to meet the demands of public safety, today and tomorrow.”

The assessment team is composed of experienced campus law enforcement professionals from out of state. IACLEA is the leading authority for campus public safety, and the AACC Department of Public Safety and Police received initial accreditation in 2008, then re-accreditation in 2011 and 2014.
