Anne Arundel County Board of Education Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) met April 9.
Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:
7:00 pm Meeting called to order by Melonie Teichert, a quorum being present.
CAC Business:
1) Approval of February minutes. Motion to approve by Tanesha Meade, 2nd by Bill Atkinson, motion passed.
2) Policy Committee update- Brandon Gulley
a. Slow month for the policy committee. Working on Kindergarten/Pre-K policies, mostly housekeeping/language updates.
3) There was no Board of Ed member present. BOE update will be scheduled for the next meeting.
4) Guest speaker – Dr. Maisha Gillins, Executive Director of Equity & Accelerated Student Achievement.
a. Her office also oversees Title 1 and AAA funding
b. They have 4 personnel working on staff professional development, and often partner with other departments within the district to accomplish their mission.
c. She also sits on the Equity Advisory Committee, which oversees head start programs in Title 1 schools.
d. They hold an annual “Principal’s Academy” to provide ongoing professional development to school administrators.
e. Discussed the recent events at Chesapeake HS, and the importance of having discussions with your children to promote respectful behavior that also creates a productive learning environment.
f. Derek Matthews, the county Community and Minority Outreach Officer holds “Coffee with Ambassador” meetings as part of the Anne Arundel United initiative. The next is scheduled to be held at the Crofton Library on Wednesday April 18th, all day during library hours.
5) Discussed officer positions for next year, including general responsibilities and expectations. Elections will be held at the next regular meeting.
6) Discussed year-end goals for subcommittees (report deadlines, etc…)
7) Brandon provided an update on the email accounts and Facebook page.
a. Do not change the recovery email or phone number associated with the account. Email him if you have any issues accessing your assigned account.
b. If you wish to post to the CAC Facebook page, you must first “like” the page, then email Brandon and he will make you an administrator for the page so you have permissions to post items. All posts will be monitored by Brandon and Bob Mosier, and any inappropriate items will be removed.

Announcements:
• There will be a Special Needs Family Health and Safety Fair held at Old Mill High School on April 22, 2018 1:00-4:00 pm.
• There will be public hearings on the proposed BOE and general county FY19 budgets.
o May 10th, 7-9 pm at the Arundel Center, 44 Calvert Street in Annapolis.
o May 14th, 7-9 Pm at North County High School.
• The last regular CAC meeting for 2017-18 will be on May 14th at 7 pm.
