City of Annapolis issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.
A dozen new firefighters have joined the ranks of the Annapolis Fire Department in recent weeks with today’s swearing in of two additional firefighters in City Hall by Mayor Gavin Buckley. The two new fire fighters join 10 additional recently sworn in firefighters who took the oath of service during the October 8 Annapolis City Council meeting, led by Alderwoman/Acting Mayor Shaneka Henson during Mayor Buckley’s absence. Today, Mayor Buckley also swore in two new police officers who graduated from the police academy Wednesday evening.
“These first responder additions to our departments of Fire and Police are part of our effort to fully staff fire stations and enhance public safety,” said Mayor Buckley. “Not only will these additional men and women help protect life and property, but their fellow officers and firefighters during emergency operations.”
The Annapolis Fire Department currently has 130 uniformed personnel on staff. The Annapolis Police Department currently has 118 uniformed personnel on staff.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to have these new personnel come on board during the 2018 calendar year with the Annapolis Fire Department. We also look forward to having our five new paramedic recruits who were recently hired, finish the fire academy and graduate later this year and then join our Fire and EMS services,” said Chief David Stokes.
