WASHINGTON, D.C. – On April 25, 2023, Chesapeake Bay Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the following statement after the announcement of a proposed settlement in the lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency for its failure to require Pennsylvania to meet the goals set out by the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint:
"For years, a major threat to the health and vibrancy of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed has been pouring downstream through its tributaries. The Chesapeake Bay is an economic engine and an environmental and cultural treasure – and all those who are fortunate to benefit from it should be equally committed to protecting it,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “I am glad that the Environmental Protection Agency has taken this step toward ensuring we all uphold our responsibility to strengthen the future of the Bay.”
