WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 1, 2023, Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement after Senator Ben Cardin announced he will retire at the end of his term:
“I join all Marylanders in thanking Senator Cardin for his lifetime of service to Maryland, our country and our world. For nearly six decades, Senator Cardin has led with grace, integrity and fierce intellect. He has been a principled defender of human rights, a champion for the environment and the Chesapeake Bay, and a tireless supporter of our small businesses. It has been an honor to represent Maryland’s Third Congressional District, as Senator Cardin did for so many years, and I look forward to serving alongside him and continuing to learn from him in the months ahead. All my best wishes to Senator Cardin and his wife Myrna who, together, have shown incredible devotion and commitment to serving others and improving our community.”
