WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on May 29, 2023 in recognition of Memorial Day:
"This Memorial Day, we remember the courageous men and women in uniform who gave the ultimate sacrifice, all in the name of our American values: freedom, democracy, justice, and human dignity. Our fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and women, and Marines showed the utmost devotion to those ideals. We must never take their loss for granted.
"As we honor their memory, we also reaffirm our commitment to caring for our Gold Star Families, veterans, and service members. Our nation has a responsibility to serve them, just as they have served us. That's why a bipartisan coalition came together last Congress to enact the Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, which will ensure that millions of veterans and their families can access the care and benefits they have earned. In addition to expanding health care for veterans exposed to dangerous toxins during their service, the PACT Act is connecting veterans and their families to memorial benefits, funding the construction of critical VA facilities, providing rental assistance to homeless veterans, and much more. As Chair of the Regional Leadership Council, I will keep working alongside my colleagues and the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure these PACT Act resources reach veterans and communities nationwide.
"May God always watch over those who gave their lives while serving our flag, and may he bless our veterans, service members, and military families."
