WASHINGTON, DC –  Afternoon of June 12, 2023, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) joined U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Andy Harris (MD-01), and Glenn Ivey (MD-04) in hosting Maryland Governor Wes Moore and members of his cabinet for the first time at the U.S. Capitol to discuss federal priorities for the state. Below is a transcript of Congressman Hoyer's remarks after the meeting.

"I supported Governor Moore strongly because I thought he had a vision, but more importantly than the vision was his ability to accomplish that vision, and what we saw in this past session of the General Assembly was a Governor who led and worked with the legislature to accomplish great things.

"In the last Congress, President Biden set before the Congress an agenda—an agenda to transform America and reenergize America, and to grow jobs and make sure that people had the access to the quality of living that America promises.

"Governor Moore, this delegation [is] looking forward to working together with the Biden Administration and with the Congress to continue that forward progress that we [made] so much of in the last year. So, Governor Moore thank you very much for your leadership, thank you very much for appointing a cabinet that has the ability and the expertise to carry on your vision and our vision and to make America all that it can be."
